We love diving into all things relationships here on Mocha Health. It should be no surprise that we are gearing up for Season 2 of Will Packer Production’s hit unscripted series, ‘Put A Ring on It’, airing on the OWN Network. The series follows three couples, under the guidance of Master Relationship Coach, Dr. Nicole LaBeach, to help them navigate relationship challenges as they set intentions on making it to the altar. We will follow the couples along on their journeys of being stretched and tested beyond their comfort zones, with the ultimate question left up for grabs: Is this truly their happily ever after?

“I root for the relationship, not the couple.”Dr. Nicole LaBeach

We caught up with Dr. Nicole, who spoke candidly about the state of Black love and the overall positive shift in its narrative to a more community-oriented dynamic – full of hope and optimism. Perhaps, the greatest piece of advice she shared is for individuals to do the self-heart work prior to entering into relationships. Adding that this is one of the best ways to open up to receive a potentially more compatible partner. When we neglect our heart work, our unresolved pain will pick the wrong person for us.

Dr. Nicole also highly recommends connecting with relationship coaches and therapists on a routine basis for the appropriate tools to sort out any unresolved issues or traumas. “Communication is the heavy-lift within relationships”, said Dr. Nicole. “Things shift when you can speak and be heard – both verbally and non-verbally.” We are anxious to see how the strengths of the couples will be brought to the forefront and barriers being eliminated. The couples will finally find out if they are truly meant to be together by dating other people, and in so doing, they’ll discover if there’s a love connection they’ve been missing all along. Will they decide it’s time to go their separate ways, or is it finally time to put a ring on it?
